Tourism Industry Figure of the Year – May Myat Mon Win
Daw May Myat Mon Win has worked in the hotel industry for nearly 25 years. She started her career as a secretary at the Summit Parkview hotel, and worked her way up the ranks to become not only the first Myanmar General Manager of Chatrium Hotel, but also the first Myanmar woman to reach this level at any of the country’s five-star hotels. Which is no mean feat!
Daw May is a co-founder of PMA (Professional Marketers Association) and supports the capacity development of the young marketers of Myanmar. She also regularly lectures at the National Management Degree College in Yangon, supporting the development of the students through sharing her expertise and knowledge in the business. She is particularly vocal about women’s education and leadership opportunities for women in Tourism and Hospitality.
Throughout her career Daw May has always led by example, and continues to work tirelessly towards promoting fair and equal opportunities for the young and especially female Myanmar employees at the Chatrium Hotel, and across the industry as a whole. Her desire to support quality and excellence within Myanmar and promote Myanmar as a tourist destination to the rest of the world is testament to her dedication to the industry.
